Ladybugs for Paige

Paige will be 10 in November and I decided I'd better get her card done early.  She always asks me if I have it done way before her birthday.  She's already decided where her birthday party will be.  She won't change her mind either.Ladybugs, Dancing Daisies, Carla's Scraps (3)

The patterned paper and ladybugs are from the Dancing Daisy line from Iron Orchid Designs.  Paige will love this.  I thought is was soooooooooo cute and SU cardstock and ribbon matched it perfectly.  What a find.  Plus, this patterned paper already has the stitching in it for the stems and curliques.  Its so finely detailed I didn't notice the stitching until I went to cut it.  I layered the background paper onto my Whisper White base and then ran it thru the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder

Ladybugs, Dancing Daisies, Carla's Scraps (2)

I couldn't get a good pic of the inside, so here's a peek at it.  You can see on the focal point where I cut out extra flowers and popped them on top of the others.  Remember they don't have to exactly match the flower underneath, it makes it look more like a cluster of flowers if you don't.

On a side note, I was asked to make a card sample using the Sizzix Alligator Die… who in their right mind would ask me to do that?  *smile*  I'll tell ya though, I had so much fun creating him.  Here's a sneak peek and I'll show you the entire card when its finished.Sizzix Alligator Die

I used a Tim Holtz Embossing folder (can't think of the name of it) and puffed him up in the center, by lightly softening the cardstock fibers and then using the Stampin Dimensions in the center and clear flat dots along the edges.  I used 2 alligators and on one I 'snipped his head off' so I could layer it separately, so it would be a bit higher than his body.  I also chalked him a bit to give him some dimension.  I think he needs a ball cap or something.  He's all done up in Scrapadoodle Green!  *smile*

Well I hope you enjoyed my post today… it was fun for me to create both these.  Remember give me a shout if ya ever have any questions!

PPA 108… Soften the Edges

Before I get to the challenge, I would like you to know this will be my last post as a Design Team member of the PPA.  I have so enjoyed your support and the love you have sent my way.  I had such a fun time being on the DT with all the awesome talent and will so miss it!!!  So look for my card amongst all the uploads, too.  *smile*

Barbara Chatzkel will be taking over my spot on the design team.  You will love her clean and fresh style.  Be sure to welcome her next week.  Barbara you'll be a perfect fit!

Todays challenge is to Soften the edges with a CAS card.  My picture turned out so flat and bland looking.  I had to take the pic when it was raining… nothing I did to it fixed it.  So picture Soft Suede…

The Pearl Flourishes are from my long forgotten stash.  They were actually still in the Michaels sack and the receipt said Sept. of 2010.  I decided right then and there to get them organized.  I was so proud!!!  Here's the inside…PPA 108, Pearls, Flowers, Lace, Brown, Carla's Scraps (1)

I hope you enjoyed my card today even though the colors are so bland.  Please join the PPA and Nicole Watt as the guest designer this week.  Come back tomorrow when I post the winner from Monday's Blog Candy and my Color Challenge card where I used the wrong colors.

Upcoming:  A card full of Ladybugs!!!

Poppies in Colored Pencil and Blog Candy

Before I go into details about my card today, I wanted to share another boo boo.  The PPA blog candy I posted last week, is for this week, not the week previous.  I am so sorry if this created any problems.  So to make up for that error, I will offer blog candy today and all you have to do is comment below.  Okay, this makes my third mistake and I hope I'm done making them!  They say if you make the 4th one, it won't end until you have 7.  I don't think I want to deal with that!

This is a free downloadable image that I found and since I love Poppies I thought how pretty it would be in colored pencils.  I'm really trying to learn to leave highlights in my coloring.  That is just so hard for me to do.  I end up with none and usually have to "erase them in".   *smile*  Poppies, Tangerine Tango, MS Punch, TT Ribbon, Carla's Scraps (3)

I couldn't find any DSP that I liked with my image so I decided a Garden Green border with an MS punch was enough.  I don't know the name of this punch.  I added a bit of retired Tangerine Tango Ribbon as an accent.

Ready for the blog candy… instead of me giving you something old that you probably already have, I am giving away a $20 Stampin' Up Gift Certificate, only available thru me.  To win, leave me a comment with your email on this post only and I will draw the winner thru Random.org on Friday morning, 8/26/11 and I will post the winner right away.  In order to win, I need your email in your comment.  Its so much easier for you and me that way. I will email the winner and post the winner also.  Gift Certificate will be valid thru 9/26/11

PPA 107 Sketch Challenge

Its time for the PPA Sketch Challenge.  Designed by our own Margaret Moody, we hope you join us and Guest Designer, Rae Harper for this weeks challenge.
107,jpg
I wanted to play around with the Hello Doily Stamp and thoroughly love how it stamps, so clean and crisp.  I stamped the image in Versa Mark and then embossed in SU white embossing powder.
Hello Doily, Trio Flower Punch, Tagtastic, PPA 107, Carla's Scraps (1)
I created my white lilac, with little red gem centers for my focal point.  You can see I created my squares for the upper right hand corner onto a square of Poppy Parade Cardstock and then punched it out with the 2 1/2" Circle Punch. The little DSP squares are punched using the Postage Punch.Hello Doily, Trio Flower Punch, Tagtastic, PPA 107, Carla's Scraps (3)
The little tag below sits inside the card… its created by layering the tag stamp from Tagtastic and the heart and thanks sentiment from Tiny Tags.  I used the large tag punch for the DSP layer and then adhered it to the cardstock and then just snipped around it making a third layer… kinda carefully.  You can see where I cut the top a tad thin.

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful comments you leave me.  I so appreciate them and the patience you have with me.  I am still not on a regular schedule at work.  I learn something new every day, that should of probably been common sense.  But my memory sure isn't what it used to be, then add a bit of nerves and its not a pretty combination.  I have been given more responsibilities as of yesterday, so until I can get that under my hat, I fear I still won't be online much.  I'm working more than I expected, but by golly I love it there!
I hope everyone has an awesome weekend.

Upcoming:  I have a cute flower image I got free and colored it in orange!!!  It turned out really cute.  (I was in the mood to color pumpkins.)

Lets Dress for Success

That’s the PPA 106 Challenge this week.  The rules…  use 1 punch, 1 DSP, and 1 Sentiment.  Join us along with Barb Furlong for this weeks Dress for Success Challenge.

Plus you could be the winner of this fabulous Blog Candy!!!  New Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, New Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon and New Stickles Diamonds could be yours by just uploading your card to the PPA this week.PPA Dress For Success Blog Candy from Carla's Scraps

I dressed up my card by using Silver, Whisper White, and a couple charms I had from my jewelry making days.  PPA Dress for Success, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Silver and White, Charms, Carla's Scraps (3)

Using a pair of wire snips I cut the little loop off the butterfly and colored in the spot with my Krylon Silver Leafing Pen, after sanding the spot left by the snips.
My charm actually swings on the wire loop.  I attached the butterfly charm using my homemade glue dots with Tomboy Mono Multi Adhesive.

Beau Chateau

Sorry I missed the PPA Challenge last week.  I made my card and it turned out to be in the wrong colors for the challenge!!!  Can you believe that!.  We decided not to post it as it would confuse everyone… I thought to myself, no it wouldn’t everyone knows me by now!!!  lol

Anyway, on to this card… which is not the one I created for the PPA last week.

I wanted to make a Lace Gathered Flower and really liked the Beau Chateau, even though it is so not my style.  But I do love this DSP.  So I went with my go to layout on this 6 X 3 card.

Beau Chateau, Ribbon Flower, Carla's Scraps (2)

I used Blushing Bride with it instead of Pink Pirouette.  I liked how it toned it down a bit.  P Pirouette was just too bright a pink and I didn’t think it worked well with my card.  I actually distressed the Butterfly just because I never do that.

My Gathered Lace Ribbon Flower is made by  using about a 3/4 yard or so of lace and making a running stitch with a needle and thread and then gathering it.  I then made a circle and sewed it shut.  The Lace Ribbon Leaves are just a folded piece of ribbon and sewn down the middle.  You’ll notice I slipped a length of Lace Ribbon under the Blushing Bride Ribbon.

Here’s the other Gathered Ribbon Lace Flower I made awhile back, if you’d like to see it.

My supplies:

  • Beau Chateau DSP
  • Blushing Bride and Whisper White Cardstock
  • Blushing Bride Ribbon
  • Lace Ribbon from my stash
  • Butterfly Punch
  • Lacey Circle Die, Nestibilites
  • Silver Gems

I hope you enjoyed my card today and my new blog design.  I created it myself using a digital kit and Elements 9.  I have some tweaking to do yet, but it should be all finished soon.  Have an awesome day and I’ll see you on Thursday with the correct PPA Challenge!!!  lol

Upcoming:  I have another Beau Chateau card that is so easy and simple and lets the DSP shine thru.  Plus, I’ll post my PPA card that I did in the wrong colors, under an assumed name.
