Pals Paper Arts Technique Challenge

Today’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge is Punches!!!  I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love punches.  So lets get started...
I knew I wanted a White on White card with a flower, but I wanted to use more than the Blossom Petals Punch.  I thought, well I’ll add a border and some embossing.
Then I remembered this beautiful card I’d seen where she layered all the border punches.  I knew it would be the perfect look for what I was visualizing.   I wish I could give her credit, but of course I didn’t save the link.  Please let me know if you know the card, I will edit my post to give proper credit.

Edited to add:  Kath knew the card I was referring to!!!  Thank you Kath!!!  Credit goes to Julie of Paper Pleasing Ideas and her card is beautiful, I might add!!!  Thanks so much Julie!

Here’s my card with an SUO center...  Border Punches, Blossom Petals Punch, White, Carla's Scraps (21)
Making the corner is pretty easy, I just punched out 2 of each border, then adhered the first layer on the left and then placed the bottom border where I thought it should go and lined the left flat edge back into the punch and nipped off the edge.
Its easier than you think once you get the first one.  Then repeat with each border layer, doing the side and then bottom and then repeat with next layer.  I didn’t like how the last layer ended in the corner, so I added a small bow.  Easy fix.
You could also Miter your corners by lining up the first border layer (both the side and the bottom where you want them) and cut a 45 degree angle thru the corner, adhere it down and then layer the next border set, and so on.  You will cut where they cross.   Just be sure to adhere that corner with some removable tape, on the front and back before snipping.Tutorial, Mitering Corners (2)Tutorial, Mitering Corners  It has a habit of moving just a lil bit on ya.

Here’s a close up of my flower center and the instructions.  No punch required.Border Punches, Blossom Petals Punch, White, Carla's Scraps (22)
SUO Flower Center (25)
Now using  your snips, snip straight down to the 1/8 line at approx. 1/8 intervals, from the angled edge.  Starting with the small end and unsnipped edge, roll up using your Quilling Tool or Piercing Tool, roll up tightly and when get to then end, adhere with a bit of Tomboy Glue.  It’ll look like this.SUO Flower Center (24)
Add some Tomboy glue to the center of your flower and sit your center in and let dry.  Now using clean finger tips... *smile*  flatten out the center all the way around.  SUO Flower Center (14)
Can’t you just picture that white flower with a So Saffron Flower Center.  I challenge you to make one!!!  The closer the nips you take, the daintier the center will look.
I hope you enjoyed and got some inspiration today.  I can’t wait to see what you create with our Punch Challenge.

Make your own Glue Dots...

I found this technique over at  Madeline Morcelo’s, The Stamping Studio.  I tried it and they are extremely secure.  She has a video showing just how secure they are, if you’d like to view it.   Believe me, I love them, I wouldn’t share if I didn’t.   Tomboy Adhesive Glue Dots (2)

Enjoy and let me know what you think of them after you’ve tried them.  I’ve been saving the little sheets from the Mini Glue Dots after I use them.   See what I mean, you can make a hundred in minutes!!!  *smile*  Just checkin’ to see if you’re reading what I share...

I got to capture a few close-ups of Tommy and thought I’d share them with you today.Tommy

Tommy

Tommy is my boy... He is by my side 24/7, we eat, sleep, nap, make cards and even potty together.  Oh and he has to nap between me and the keyboard when I’m on the computer.  Its not easy, but I’ve adapted new typing skills.

Every night I work, Tommy goes and sits at Mom’s feet waiting for me to get home.  When I pull in, Mom looks at Tommy and says “Your Moms home” and Tommy says, Maum?  Mom, say “yes its your Mom” and as soon as I touch the door handle, Tommy greets me at the front door and has to jump on my back for a little lovin.  Photobucket

66 Cent Jewelry/Candy Containers

Need an Quick ‘n Easy Gift?  How about these handy little containers.  Perfect for jewelry, candy or little what-not's.  I found the idea over a Patty Stamps.  I just had to make these for Paige.

Candy Containers, Jewelry Containers

Candy Containers, Jewelry Containers (3)

Now for the best part... these are Stampin’ Ups “Stampin’ Store Containers” found on page 193 of the IBC.  You get 6 for 3.95!!!  Can’t go wrong with anything under a dollar!!!

Candy Containers, Jewelry Containers (2)

Now the Quick ‘n Easy part... The 2 1/2” Circle Punch covers the lid perfectly.  I punched one for the outside and one for the inside of the lid to cover the SU Logo when it’s opened...

IMGP3700

Thank you so much Patty, Paige is going to love these!!!

Supplies...Candy Containers, Jewelry Containers

Container 1:  Tim Holtz Mini Paper Rosettes Die and Button from the Ice Cream Parlor Button and Ribbon Pack

Container 2:  5 Petal Punch, Button from Sweet Stitches Button Pack, and the Scallop Circle is from the Ice Cream Parlor DSP/Quick Accents Pack

Container 3:  Blossom Party Die and Button from the Sweet Stitches Button Pack

All containers include:  Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon, Butterfly Punch, the Stamp Set, Butterfly Prints, Ice Cream Parlor DSP and the 2 1/2 Circle Punch.

I adhered the Ice Cream Parlor DSP (from the SAB) and all embellishments with Mini Clear Dots here and there.  To adhere the Pompom Trim along the edge, just use Sticky Strip.  I used 1/8” Scor-Pal Tape, I’m out of Sticky Strip.

Note:  I stamped my butterfly on Whisper White Cardstock, punched it out and then turned it over and stamped again.   This is what Paige will probably see if they are on her dresser...  she’s a shorty.  IMGP3703

I could make dozens of these... they are so Quick ‘n Easy!!!  Fun too!!!  The problem with these, I can’t have any... my kitties would pick that butterfly up by their little front teeth and cart them off as toys.  Well, I could add a couple mini glue dots to the bottom...

I hope you enjoyed these little containers today and that you make some too.  I’d be so tickled if you’d leave me a comment and tell me what ya think of them.

PPA 86 Embedded Embossing and Tulip Frame Tutorial

Emboss:  to adorn or decorate with a raised design

Pals Paper Arts challenges you to make a good impression and emboss this week! Whether you use an embossing folder, embossing powder, or a letterpress plate this element of style adds wonderful texture and interest to your design.   Martha Stewart joins the PPA Design Team this week as our featured artist.   (thanks, Linda)

For my card today I had to do the Embedded Embossing Technique  and I wanted to create a frame on top of it.  So I used the Tulip Frame Embossing Folder and cut out the middle and layered my focal point on the inside.

PPA86, Embossing, Embedded Embossing, Beautiful Butterflies Die (3)

This is the inside...

PPA86, Embossing, Embedded Embossing, Beautiful Butterflies Die

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to cut out the center from your Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, if you need it...

I lined mine up per the corner tulip petals (see photo below) and positioned in my trimmer (see photo 2 below) and cut away.

IMGP3688

Line up the inside arrow on your cutter to the spot you want to start cutting (see it in the photo below.. its in the middle of the orange blade holder) and then line up the vertical line that’s in the center of the orange blade holder with your cutting line, now cut down to the next Tulip.  You don’t need the line, I just added that for a visual.  You’ll be able to see where to start and stop.  Now turn and do the same all the way around.

IMGP3686

Flip it over and add dimensional adhesive (Stampin Dimensions, Pop Dots, Strips) all the way around right on top of the tulips.  Don’t push so hard that you flatten the tulips.  I added the tape on top of the Tulips so you couldn’t see the tape when viewing the front of the card.

IMGP3689

Add your focal point on top the dimensional tape... mine is a little over 1/4” bigger than the cut out.

PPA86, Embossing, Inside Frame

IMGP3560

Cut out a piece of cardstock to match your card base, mine is a regular A-2 size so I cut my cover piece 5 1/4 by 4 and adhere.  (1/4 shorter)

I didn’t have any of the SU square punches in the size I needed for the frame around my butterflies, so I ran the larger Square Nestiblities thru my Big Shot, then lined up the next size smaller Square Nestibilities right on top, added a little removable Scotch Tape to secure the die to the cardstock and ran it back thru the Big Shot.

Tip:  Something I finally did that might make life easier for you too, I took the regular Scotch Tape out of my tape dispenser and put in Removable Scotch Tape... talk about making life easier.  Its just right there when I need it and I always need it.PPA86, Embossing, Embedded Embossing, Beautiful Butterflies Die (2)

I know, its brown...  I guess I do like brown, especially this brown.  I wasn’t a fan of Soft Suede until they came out with the Elegant Soiree DSP.  Oh, see my label... I cut the top and bottom off the XL Decorative Label Punch so it would fit.  *smile*

Fast and Fabulous CAS Card

Today’s card is stamped with the Hostess Level II Set, Fast and Fabulous.  I so wish this set would stick around for ever.  This is one that will remain in my stash forever.  *smile*

Had I of not been a demo, I wouldn’t of been able to get this set.  During the Preview of the Idea Book and Catalog, you get to purchase one Level II and one Level III Hostess Set.  Now that’s incentive to become a Demo.Fast and Fablous Stamp Set

I colored my flowers with Colored Pencils using Lavenders and Purples with a hint of Pink and Indigo, blending lightly with the Clear Blender Pencil.Fast and Fabulous Stamp Set, (2)

I used the Masking Technique to layer my flowers.  I also stamped one more on a separate piece of cardstock, colored and snipped her out to layer on top of the middle one with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The centers are made by dipping a toothpick into a tiny puddle of Folk Art Enamels Paint.  If you use the enamels instead of the acrylic paints, your dots dry shiny and not dull.  You can find them at your local craft store in the craft paint isle.  The color I used is Lemon Custard.

If you are familiar with this stamp set, you will notice I added more petals within each flower with a black .005 Micron Marker.  Here’s the before and after...Fast and Fabulous Remake (2)
