Scallop Frame Tutorial and Card

      Sympathy Cards and Tutorial (2)

Here’s the second card in my Bella Blue Collection that I’ve been making.  The first was for the PPA Sketch Challenge here.  I first seen this flower here at Debbie Henderson's.  The tutorial can be found here at Lynn Pratt’s.  Now for my Frame Tutorial...  My card begins with a Very Vanilla 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 pc of cardstock, scored at 4 1/2.  My first layer is in the first photo... the Night of Navy one, cut as shown.

Sympathy Card and Tutorial

Using a piece of scrap, cut it to the dimensions shown in the Kraft layer... 4 3/4 by 3 1/2.  This will be placed, centered over your Night of Navy pc below.  Draw with a pencil with a light hand all around it.  Your going to cut a hole that size into your Night of Navy Cardstock.

Sympathy Card and Tutorial (5)

Here I am lining it up in my Cutter...    Sympathy Card and Tutorial (2)See the arrows pointing out, left and right on that orange thing?  Line up the cutting blade on the cut line and the orange arrow line to your pencil lines and cut.  Go ahead, do it.  You can practice on a pc of computer paper first if ya want.  It looks hard, but those arrows really do line up exactly with your pencil lines.  Be sure to stop cutting when the arrow lines up with the next pencil line that you drew.  Now, wasn’t that easy.  It scared me the first time  I did it.  But, it came out perfect.  Now on the back side, add double stick tape, I’m using Scor Pal tape because its strong and you can tear it with your fingers.  You can use the Red line tape too, you’ll want the 1/8” width in either.    See photo below...

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (13)

Now I don’t have a picture but... take a piece of DSP that you want your frame made of, I’m using Bella Blue, cut 4 strips of your DSP 6” X 1” and using your Scallop Trim Border Punch 118402, punch along one side of the edges of all 4 pieces.  Adhere the strips to the sides first and then the top and bottom, with back sides showing of the frame and the edge strips.  see below...

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (11)

This is the right side, see below

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (10)

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (9)

This is what the front side should look like now... see below.  Trim off all the DSP to the same size as your frame and then...

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (6)

You want to take your scissors and snip from the inside of the frame to the outside of the frame, just to the Night of Navy border at a 45 degree angle and then snip off the excess along the edges, below the blue.  There will be some little pieces, they are hard to notice on this DSP.

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (4)

Now flip it over and adhere it to the front your card.  Stamp your sentiment or image and its done.  You can replace the flower with something else or leave it off completely and even do another frame layer on the inside of the first one.  Lots of ideas here.  You could even pop it off the card with Pop Dots.

Sympathy Cards and Tutorial (2) I hope you liked my tutorial today.  Any questions or comments just leave them below in the comment section or send me an email.  Hugs,  Oh I nearly forgot, see the Night of Navy scallop behind the flower... thats done with the Pendant Die #113483.  There are scallop circles on that die, that layer perfectly with the Scallop Circle Punch #109043 used to make the flower.

Punch Art Bunny Card

Here’s the card I promised you yesterday that goes with my Punch Art Bunny Pillow Treat...Carla's Punch Art Bunny (6)

I think this is by far the most favorite card I’ve made for Paige.  To do the background.  Cut 1” strips from 3 different pieces of DSP.  Then on your card front, draw a pencil line from corner to corner.  Line up and adhere your first piece to that line and continue.  I cut the overlap off after applying each strip.  You could do it all at the end.  Tip:  Brush the overlapped pieces with Baby Powder or Corn Starch to keep all the overlap pieces from adhering themselves onto something you can’t get them back off of.

The product I used today...

  • Punch Art Bunny Tutorial
  • Shades of Spring DSP 117160
  • Pawsitively Prints DSP 118060
  • Scallop Edge Punch 112091
  • Martha Stewart Grass Border Punch
  • Brocade Blue Ribbon 109057
  • White Candy Dots

I saw this style of card in a magazine I was browsing at work Tuesday night.  I was on my lunch.  *smile*  I have no idea the name of the book or the creator of the card design.  But I loved it.

Here again is the inside...Carla's Punch Art Bunny (5)

And here is the completed set...Carla's Punch Art Bunny for Paige

Carla's Punch Art Bunny Tools

Carla's Punch Art Bunny

Using above picture as a guide,  in white punch the following... 1 Ornament, 2 Wide Ovals, 4 Large Ovals and 2, 1/2” Circles.  In Pretty in Pink (or your favorite pink) punch 4 Small Ovals and 1 regular little one using that standard silver hole punch.  In Black, punch 2 black ovals with Martha’s Tear Drop punch.

Carla's Punch Art Bunny (3)

Beginning in upper left corner of picture above and working across... Trim the top and bottom off your Ornament piece.  Keeping the cut area curved.  Adhere to the Wide Oval as shown.  Take 2 Large Oval pieces placing clear dots in the lower most end of each one, and set aside.  Add a pink Small Oval piece to the other two Large Oval pieces.  Placing the pink toward the bottom of the large ovals.  This is to leave room for the paws.   Now add Dimensionals to each side of the belly as shown.  You want to stack 2, one on top of the other.  This way your legs are further away from the bunnies cheeks creating more dimension.  Set aside.

Row 2.  Adhere the ears to the bunny head, placing the clear dots just below the top of the head, you don’t want them down too far.  Mine are just barely not showing.  Be sure to center your ears within the piece you cut off the Ornament, that is center, (see second picture on the top of the photo).  Add your Small Oval pink pieces, one to each ear, centering them and being sure some is overlaying the top of Hannah’s head.  Now add your paw lines to the feet with your Micron, (see picture for placement) now adhere to the stacked dimensionals (pop dots).  Place the center of the feet just a bit below the body, so the center shows a tad.  Now, line up the last Wide Oval (her butt), and adhere the ‘butt’ so it lines up with the sides of the legs yet sits a bit below the bottom center of her feet.

Final Step... add pop dots, to both 1/2” circles.  Adhere all facial features.  Detail your eyes with a bit of white highlights.  Tip:  To adhere the eyes easier, place them in your tweezers then add a dot of glue from your 2 Way Glue Pen, now add to the face.  Be sure to place the highlights, one on the outside and the other one on the inside of the eyes or she’ll be cross eyed.  With your Micron add some whiskers coming out from the cheeks.  In the picture above, I also added a little ‘fur’ to her ears, using my Sharpie Fine Point White Poster Paint Marker.

You could always add a small white pom pom between the legs for the tail.  I didn’t sponge the edges with the matching ink this time.  But you could do that too for added dimension.  Oh, curl an ear forward, wouldn’t that be cute.Carla's Punch Art Bunny (10)

My Pillow Box Wrapper is made using

  • Pawsitively Prints DSP 118060
  • Martha Stewart Grass Border Punch
  • Brocade Blue Ribbon 109057

To make my Pillow Box wrapper...  cut your background Cardstock/DSP to 2 7/8  by 5 1/2.  Your top layer will be 2 5/8 by 5 1/2.  Adhere these together, lining up the tops evenly and centering in between the edges.  Score on the long side at 1/2”, Fold down to the back.  Add red line tape or score pal tape to the back side of the fold over and to the very bottom, back side.  Starting at the top of your box, place the fold over the top, letting it adhere to the back and wrap.  You’ll have to play with it a bit, you’ll want to add any ribbon and grass to the wrapper before you adhere it to the Pillow Box

Here’s how I got my Punch Art Bunny to stand up...Carla's Punch Art Bunny (8)

My easel is made using a piece of Brocade Blue Cardstock cut to 3 X 2 1/2 and scored at 1 1/2 (on the 3” side).  Your making a tent.  I then cut a pc of Brocade Blue 2” X 1” and scored on each end 1/2” (score on the long ends).  Fold those ends and add some double stick adhesive and tape to the bottom of the opening.  Adhere to the inside bottom of your tent.  Adhere to your Pillow Box.Carla's Punch Art Bunny (13)

Now here’s a sneak peek at the inside of the card I made to go with my Anything But A Card, Punch Art Bunny Pillow Box.  You’ll get to see them together tomorrow.

Carla's Punch Art Bunny (5)

I hope you enjoyed my Anything But A Card Easter Bunny Pillow Box and the Punch Art Bunny Tutorial.  I wanted to add, you can use the Pillow Box Die 113466 with Clear Window Sheets (Clear Cardstock) 114323 to make your own Pillow Boxes.  I purchased my Pillow Boxes all ready to go before I became obsessed with Stampin’ UP.   If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me.

‘Quick and Easy’ Butterflies and Polka Dots

Rose Red Polka Dots and Butterflies (6)

Here’s another ‘Quick and Easy’ card today.  Using only 2 colors.  Rose red is so pretty when popped with Whisper White.  Today I used a piece of Sweet Pea DSP 117161 layered onto Embossed (117335 Polka Dots) Whisper White Cardstock.  I added a Cuddlebug Strip/Border Embossing folder in Whisper white and attached with adhesive and and embellished with a Candy Dot.  I then took Rose Red and Whisper White Embossed Cardstock and ran it thru the Big Shot for the Butterflies with my Beautiful Butterfly Die 114507, added some tiny self-adhesive Gems for the body and its finished.  I like that.

Rose Red Polka Dots and Butterflies

I really like the clean and simple look.  The inside, I left unstamped so I can use this card for a Get Well, Thank You, Happy Birthday or even just to say I miss you.  I hope you enjoy my card today.  Off to get groceries.  Hugs,

Scallop Circle Card and Tutorial

I’ve been wanting to make the Scallop Circle Cards for a while now.  But, I just didn’t have anything in mind.  Then along came the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt Flowers, 117266.  Aren’t they terrific.   I wanted to add a bit more interest to it, so using embroider floss or craft floss, I wrapped the scallops.  I know there’s a name for this, but I sure don’t know what it is.  Its not mine, I found it along time ago... probably on Sandi Genovese’ Scrapbooking show on DIY Network years ago.  Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (6)Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (4)
First I want you to get your Scallop Circle Card cut so it stands straight and doesn’t lean to one side.  Your fold line will be at the top of the die and positioned as shown in the two photo’s below...Scallop Circle Card and Tutorial
Scallop Circle Card and Tutorial (2)
Now that is cut with the Circle Scallop Die #113468, open it up and make tiny pencil dots, on the front side of your card.  One in the center and one on each side of that one, centered.  And punch tiny hole on each pencil dot, lining it right up to the top of the fold line.  See below for placement.  Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (19)Lets start wrapping that floss/craft thread...  Tape one end to the center of your card.  See below...    (You can start anywhere)  The DMC Color Chart matching SU Colors can be found in my sidebar under Misc. or you can click here.Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (16)
Now pull that thread up to the first full scallop on the upper left, right after the fold and down around the inside of your card to the bottom scallop that is directly opposite of it on the lower right side., shown below...  be sure to open your card, the first one I wrapped, I couldn’t open it.  The kids, I mean cats even laughed at me.
Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (14)
and continue wrapping and going thru the holes you made...  be sure to hold the center of the thread where it overlaps to keep it taut.  You want it taut enough to just not bend the card.Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (11)
Here is the finished wrapping and using a piece of scrap tape, I had this on the table, adhere that final wrap to your card.  Remember this is the front side and your embellishments will cover it.  You can even leave the protective layer on.  I did.
Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (10)
The picture below is the inside.  How pretty.  There is enough slack in the thread to straighten it up a bit in the center.
Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (3)
Back to the front of the card.  Using the Circle Scallop #2 Die, 113469 I ran a pc of Sweet Pea DSP, 117161 thru the Big Shot, added some Stampin’ Dimensionals all over... since I still have layers to add on top of that piece, I didn’t want it to smash.
Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (9)

I then added a Whisper White Circle layer from my Nestiblilities with another Scallop of Sweet Pea DSP from the Scallop Circle #2 Die and glued the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt Flowers onto the card using Fabric Tac, available at your local Michaels... *smile*
Scal Circle Card and Tutorial (5)
Don’t ya think it gives it just little more pop?  I think I’ll send one to myself.  Yes, I would do that.  lol
