Trumpet Vine Tutorial and Card

Mary Sunday Feature (5)I would like to thank Mary of Stampin’ Pretty for featuring my card and tutorial on her blog today.  Mary you are awesome and I so appreciate everything you do me.   I am so lucky to be a member of her Pals!  I would like to thank everyone that came from Mary’s for visiting me, too.  A huge hug to all of you.
My card features my Trumpet Vine Tutorial, see below.  My flowers are created using Pretty in Pink Textured Cardstock and the leaves are done in Certainly Celery Textured Cardstock.  I like using textured cardstock for my flowers, so you can sponge some ink over the petals and leaves to get some added dimension.   Here’s the inside...Mary Sunday Feature (2)
Do you not just love the Hugs, Sending Love Notes?  What an awesome frame for my flowers and for my personalized sentiment on the inside.   I truly lucked out there.  Here’s a list of supplies I used to create the card.
  • Shades of Spring DSP 117160
  • Scallop Edge Punch 112091
  • Hugs, Sending Love Notes 118778
  • Whisper White/Pretty in Pink/Certainly Celery Cardstock
Here’s how I cut everything out.  I cut a pc of Whisper White Cardstock 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4 for my base (A-2).  I then scalloped the front, opening side of the card with my Scallop Edge Punch.  I cut out a pc of the Pink Dot DSP to 6 X 6 and punched one edge with the Scallop edge punch.  I laid that on top of my card, lining it up exactly where I needed the scallops to line up with the ones already on the card base and made tic marks where to trim it down to.  I ended up trimming on 3 sides.  (Repeat the same step for the inside DSP) I then trimmed a piece of Pretty in Pink Cardstock to be a base for my both my Hugs.
Trumpet Vine Tutorial...
I love flowers.  If you ask me what my favorite one is, I cannot tell you.  I truly couldn’t choose.  I call my Punch Art Flower, Carla’s Trumpet Vine.   You can make them in any color you like, I’m using Cameo Coral and Certainly Celery for this tutorial.
The supplies you need are... Certainly Celery and Cameo Coral Stampin’ Pads, Sponge Daubers #102892, 2 Step Bird Punch #117191, Scallop Oval Punch #114889, Boho Blossoms Punch #110711, 3/4” Round Punch #107217.  Flower Centers as in Picture and an Embossing Tool.
Carla's Trumpet Vine Tutorial (13)Using your Scallop Oval Punch, punch out 2 ovals and cut in half, short ways.  Sit one piece aside.  On Layer 1 cut a V notch out in the places shown.  For layers 2 and 3, cut the bottom off where shown.  Now you will make your emboss lines from between to the scallops to the bottom, this will make your your petal shape.Carla's Trumpet Vine TutorialSee where the dots are in the first row down on petals 1 and 2, you can either glue them or use little glue dots and adhere.  Be sure to count your scallops when gluing.  Its the 2nd scallop from the top on #1 and the 1st petal from the top on petal #2.  Now turn over to the back side.  And cut off the excess petal so your back to your V shape, as in the 1.  Turn back over and glue #3 petal to #2.  Be sure to count your scallop placement.  Turn over and cut off the excess from petal 3.  Turn over and using your embossing tool, open the petals up.
Carla's Trumpet Vine Tutorial (5)
Now using your Boho Blossoms punch, punch 1 of the larger flowers out or you can use the middle one, both views are shown.  Score between each scallop and cut out 2 scallops for the larger flower and only one for the smaller and adhere them back together.  Flatten and attach to the bottom of your flower.  Using the stamens, cut at the size you desire, dip into a bit of glue and place inside the first layer of your flower.
Carla's Trumpet Vine Tutorial (2)
Using the vine and wings from the 2 Step Bird punch, assemble as below.  Or create any type of stem and leaves you’d like.

Below is the sample I made for this tutorial.  Embellish with lots leaves and curliques... make it fun and enjoy!

The only difference between the flower on my card and the tutorial, is I added some little leaves under the base of the flower.
I hope you enjoyed my Trumpet Vine Tutorial today.  I’d love it if you send me a link to your creations using this tutorial.  I enjoy seeing all the different ideas that you all have.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I’d love it if you’d leave me a comment.
