Scallop Frame Tutorial and Card

      Sympathy Cards and Tutorial (2)

Here’s the second card in my Bella Blue Collection that I’ve been making.  The first was for the PPA Sketch Challenge here.  I first seen this flower here at Debbie Henderson's.  The tutorial can be found here at Lynn Pratt’s.  Now for my Frame Tutorial...  My card begins with a Very Vanilla 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 pc of cardstock, scored at 4 1/2.  My first layer is in the first photo... the Night of Navy one, cut as shown.

Sympathy Card and Tutorial

Using a piece of scrap, cut it to the dimensions shown in the Kraft layer... 4 3/4 by 3 1/2.  This will be placed, centered over your Night of Navy pc below.  Draw with a pencil with a light hand all around it.  Your going to cut a hole that size into your Night of Navy Cardstock.

Here I am lining it up in my Cutter...    Sympathy Card and Tutorial (2)See the arrows pointing out, left and right on that orange thing?  Line up the cutting blade on the cut line and the orange arrow line to your pencil lines and cut.  Go ahead, do it.  You can practice on a pc of computer paper first if ya want.  It looks hard, but those arrows really do line up exactly with your pencil lines.  Be sure to stop cutting when the arrow lines up with the next pencil line that you drew.  Now, wasn’t that easy.  It scared me the first time  I did it.  But, it came out perfect.  Now on the back side, add double stick tape, I’m using Scor Pal tape because its strong and you can tear it with your fingers.  You can use the Red line tape too, you’ll want the 1/8” width in either.    See photo below...

Now I don’t have a picture but... take a piece of DSP that you want your frame made of, I’m using Bella Blue, cut 4 strips of your DSP 6” X 1” and using your Scallop Trim Border Punch 118402, punch along one side of the edges of all 4 pieces.  Adhere the strips to the sides first and then the top and bottom, with back sides showing of the frame and the edge strips.  see below...

This is the right side, see below

This is what the front side should look like now... see below.  Trim off all the DSP to the same size as your frame and then...

Sympathy Cards and Tutorials (6)

You want to take your scissors and snip from the inside of the frame to the outside of the frame, just to the Night of Navy border at a 45 degree angle and then snip off the excess along the edges, below the blue.  There will be some little pieces, they are hard to notice on this DSP.

Now flip it over and adhere it to the front your card.  Stamp your sentiment or image and its done.  You can replace the flower with something else or leave it off completely and even do another frame layer on the inside of the first one.  Lots of ideas here.  You could even pop it off the card with Pop Dots.

Sympathy Cards and Tutorial (2) I hope you liked my tutorial today.  Any questions or comments just leave them below in the comment section or send me an email.  Hugs,  Oh I nearly forgot, see the Night of Navy scallop behind the flower... thats done with the Pendant Die #113483.  There are scallop circles on that die, that layer perfectly with the Scallop Circle Punch #109043 used to make the flower.
