Wanna see my Cookbook?

I thought I post pictures of my cookbook today… a nice change during this busy Christmas Season.  I made this for my son and dil, Wes and Val last year.  I’m using it now though.  They have to wait til I decide to retire from cooking.  Which could be soon, I think its cheaper to eat out anymore.  This is me with all my favorite foods, Salt, Potato Chips, Hersey’s Chocolate, Choc-Chip Oatmeal cookies and Popcorn.

Below is a close-up of Moms Cornbread Recipe and Mine… mine is a Jiffy Mix!  *smile*  Oh how the generations change.  On Moms Mashed Potato Recipe, I had to add a correction… “its so much easier just to heat Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes in the Microwave for 6 minutes, just add a little salt and butter and your good to go.”  Oh, you’d of thought I’d lost it, when Mom read that.  It does make me wonder what the differences will be when Paige is married, she’s only 8.Below is a pic of Me and Mom.  Mom used to be the cook in my grandma’s Cafe, hence the apron and utensils.  Mom was never without her apron, even cookin at home.  Mom eats an apple everyday with her lunch, I choose Hersey’s with mine. I also typed out everyone’s holiday traditions.  I didn’t realize how different they were and how odd that some little thing turned into a holiday tradition.

These next 2 (below) are my favorite Christmas Recipes…  from chocolates, cookies and candies to the Christmas meal.

The photo below will be the traditions of my grandma’s and great grandma’s… I need to locate more photos, that I can’t find anywhere!!!  Then I’ll finish those pages.

The inside back cover is family photo’s.  Photo’s on right:  My first Hersey bar at 6 months of age, Paige my granddaughters Mashed Potatoes at 6 months.  Wes with his 5 lb. Hersey Bar and that photo of the little kid on the right in the hat… thats my son with a dish towel on his head, stirring an empty bowl with a wooden spoon on his Nana’s lap.  lol  Photo’s on left:  Mom, Me and Wes with his bottle, Wes doing his Karate, he’s a 2nd Degree Black Belt, then there’s a pic of his wife, Val and daughters, Gabby and Paige.  Then Steve at the bottom.  I don’t know why Dads not there, I better fix that.

This is the second cookbook I’ve made, the first one was way too small.  This one is actually too small too.  But I so love using it, I go thru every page, everytime I use it.  I love seeing the pictures in my cookbook.  I also added a few blurbs to some of the recipes as to why this is my favorite or just a little funny note of something that happened at a meal the dish was served.  LIke the time I served Fried Rabbit for Easter… that wasn’t the day for that meal.  Thankfully Wes was about 14 or 15 when I did that.  I wanted them to have to read the cookbook, not just think it was a normal everyday cookbook.  I put every page in a thick clear sheet protector, so its safe from my messes, the last one wasn’t as protected as I had thought. 

Well, I hope you enjoyed a tour of my cookbook.  Its not a traditional one, by any means.  As I sit here typing this post, I remember things I didn’t include… sounds like cookbook 3 could be on its way.  I can’t get another page to fit, unless we solder it shut.  lol 

Well, I’m off to string beads for my Christmas Tree and you’ll get to see that on Dec 1st!!!  Which means its nearly Holiday Hop Time!!!  As many as 16 Stampin UP Demonstrators will have lots of fabulous creations to share with you on that day!!!

PPA KISS Challenge 18

 

Todays challenge at the Pals Paper Arts is KISS.  I chose to use the Simply Scrappin’ Kit Christmas Jingle, #115696, Real Red Ribbon, #109052 and Mistletoe Ribbon, #116792

 

The only additions to all three cards is a little layering, candy dots or gems and ribbon.

On this card I used the Snowflake Cuddlebug Embossing folder.

I thought they turned out kinda cute.  Plus I have 3 more Christmas cards done.  Now, how simple is that.

Potted Poinsettia Christmas Card

Here’s another one of my Christmas Cards for this year.  I didn’t realize how far behind I was in making my Christmas Cards until today… whew!!!  They are going to have to be KESC.  (Keep Em Simple Carla). 

I added a little homemade easel on the back, so my card would stand…

     I made the easel so it would close and snug tight to the back of the card and fit in the envelope.  This card is one of the Splitcoast Tutorials by Stephanie Luman.

The only supplies I used today were my Poinsettia Punch Art Tutorial, Christmas Cocoa DSP #116770, Merry and Bright Rub Ons #116801, Soft Suede Cardstock and the materials for the Poinsettia.  Oh and the little MS Tag Punch, which I fancied up a bit.

Christmas Poinsettia PPA 17

 

My card today was created for the Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge. 

The sketch was designed by Margaret Moody.  This sketch was so fun to follow.  My square Nestibilities set arrived just in time for this challenge. 

My card base is Whisper White Textured Cardstock, layer 2, is also Whisper White Cardstock, embossed with the Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  I then layered my 4 squares of Holiday Lounge DSP, #115676 onto Whisper White Cardstock.  For added dimension, I popped onto the dotted background.  I then added my Punch Art Poinsettia to the center of the DSP squares.  Here’s the Poinsettia Punch Art Tutorial.  I stamped the Merry Christmas sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes, #1158370 onto Whisper White Cardstock using Real Red.  Using the Modern Label Punch, #116630 I punched a piece of Ruby Red, Taken with Teal Cardstock and the stamped sentiment.  I then cut the Ruby Red and the Taken with Teal label in half and layered them behind the sentiment with clear flat dots. 

Here is the inside of my card today.

Poinsettia Punch Art Tutorial

Ready… lets do it!!!

Supplies:  I used Martha Stewart Punches, you can use any brand.

1” Circle Punch ~ 1” Leaf Punch ~ 1” Five Petal Flower Punch ~ Regular Sized Hole Punch ~ Small Ball Stylus ~ Scissors ~ Paper Piercer ~ Straight Pin ~ 2 Sponge Daubers ~ Summer Sun and Real Red SU Markers ~  Old Olive and Real Red Stampin Pad.
The first thing you’ll do is punch out 12 Real Red Leaves, 3 Old Olive Leaves, 1 Five petal flower in Real Red and one 1”Circle.

Now you will want to emboss all the petals, one line straight down from the stem to the point of the leaf.  Now flip over the petals so the embossing is on top.
Using your sponge daubers and ink pads, distress the raised side of each leaf.
Place 3 green leaves without the stems on your punched circle using a small clear dot, to outer edge of the circle, one at 3 O’clock, 7 O’clock and at 9 O’clock.  Now place the red leaves, cuttin off the stems,  at 12 O’clock, 2 O’clock, 4 O’clock, 6 O’clock, 8 O’clock and 10 O’clock.  Be sure placement is at the outer edge of your circle.  You’ll need room for the center layer. 
Note:  Be sure the raised edge of the embossing is on the top, now bend the sides of each leaf to the center so the there is a crease down the middle of each leaf.  You can do this after each layer or at the very end.
Now place the last 6 leaves, with the stems,  between each petal of the previous layer.  These petals will be placed in the empty spot in the center of the circle.
Using a sheet of your printer paper, punch out circles with your regular sized hole punch.  And color them with your Summer Sun Marker, color both sides.  While they are still wet…

Make little balls, like above.  Stick one on the end of a straight pin and dip into a little spot of glue (above left) and place in the center of your 5 petal flower.   Do this for all 5 punched circles.  Now, right on top of the yellow ball, using your Real Red Marker, place a spot of red on top of the yellow centers.  Now, using a clear dot, place it in the center of your last layer of leaves.And there you have it.  I hope you enjoyed my Poinsettia Punch Art Tutorial today.
